Light is the foundation of every great photograph—and knowing how to shape it can transform an ordinary scene into a compelling image. In this class, you’ll learn how to use light and shadow intentionally to add depth, mood, and visual interest to your photographs.
We’ll explore how different qualities of light (hard vs. soft, natural vs. artificial, directional light, and backlighting) affect your subject, and how shadows can be used as creative elements rather than distractions. You’ll learn to see light before you press the shutter, recognize patterns and contrast, and use highlights and shadows to guide the viewer’s eye.
Through clear demonstrations, real-world examples, and hands-on practice, you’ll gain practical techniques you can apply immediately—whether you’re photographing people, landscapes, architecture, or everyday scenes. This class is suitable for beginner to intermediate photographers using any camera who want to move beyond flat images and start creating photographs with impact, drama, and storytelling power.
